This coat is like a down blanket with arms. It is everything the description says (except I haven't tested it in -50 degrees). Warm and comfy and lightweight. I got the periwinkle and have received random compliments on the color. The pockets are nice and deep with zippers. There's one inner pocket that could fit a cell or player. A slight difficulty is the zipper can pull on the bottom as it is low on the legs, but it is 2- way so can be opened up a few inches. And the outer wind placket has sturdy snaps that go below the zipper. The coat is not fitted so it not the most stylish and it runs large, as with many Bean clothes. Where I'd usually need a M, I got the S and it's plenty big! I got it at the beginning of the season...and am loving it in this frigid weather. What a great item!
I've had this jacket in the blue color for 7 years.The blue is much less bright now but the jacket has really held up.It is reliably warm as no other coat I own. The inside packets are really handy.The hood forms a nice,secure seal around my head and chin. It is a little boxy in the middle and too wide at the bottom but,overall I like the security of knowing I'll be warm and protected from winds.
I purchased this item as a gift to myself and am thrilled with the coat. Not only does it look wonderful, my daughter and friends want ones that look like it, but I wore it out to walk today. The temperature was in the low 20's and I had only a silk shirt underneath. I was very comfortable. When the wind picked up, I found I could pull the hood snugly around my neck and fasten with Velcro patches provided on the collar. I am very happy with this coat and am looking forward to wearing it out in the colder weather and snow that are expected in my town.
I have had this coat for over a year now and I'm really happy with it. I live in Kansas City MO, so it doesn't ever get 40 below here, but the coat keeps me very warm and it is soooo lightweight! This morning it was about 17 degrees when I went to work and it was perfect for me. Fortunately, I haven't worn it in temperatures below 5 degrees due to the geographic area I live in.
I got the chocolate color because I park in a parking garage every day and my coats get dirty from brushing up against dirty cars in the winter. The 3/4 length hits me just above the knee caps and doesn't drag on the dirty part of my car door. This color doesn't show dirt much.
Also, it zips up nicely!! I had an LL Bean coat several years ago with a great zipper (a shorter coat) and had to replace it when I put on weight. Got the same coat again, but rarely can wear it because the newer one has a cheaper zipper that doesn't work (for me anyway) most of the time.
I weigh about 160 and am 5'3", so the Ultrawarm PXL fits me perfectly--sleeve length, overall length. The pockets are a little skimpy, but I can deal with that to get a nice-fitting, light-weight coat with a zipper that works. My sister, who lives in Oregon, recommended this coat after getting herself one. After the bad zipper in my last LL Bean coat, I was nervous about spending this much money to get another coat, but am so glad I did. It has really kept me warm the last two winters.
