I bought my first set 8-10 years ago, another set about 4 years ago, and a third (different color) last winter. My first set was worn thin, second set is getting there. The latest set unfortunately has pilled. I love the flannel sheets and have recommended them in the past, but I can't do that now. Most of the pilling seems to be where my husband's stubbly chin contacts the top sheet and in the foot area. I bought the plaid pillowcases, not the solid that match the sheets, and the cases are in good condition. We use flannel year-round, great in A/C during the summer, and I will keep and continue to use the most recent purchase. Hope that whatever is causing the pilling problem gets solved before my next order!
I have tried to give them a chance but after several washings not only are they not soft but the pilling makes it feel like we are sleeping in sandpaper. They are going back!
Before disovering these flannel sheets, I'd buy a new set just about every season. They would shrink, be impossible to get on the bed, and get pilled after only a few washings.
I've now had my king size set for several years and they are warm, have not pilled, and are still true to size. I noticed my kids kept coming to sleep in my bed during cold weather, so now each kid has their very own set. They love how warm and cozy they are. Although these seem expensive at first glance, when you add up how much replacing all those cheap sheets every year cost, these are a bargain.
