These are beautiful to look at and feel soft and luxurious the first time you put them on the bed. But sadly they pill with the first washing, and feel rough to the touch. And get progressively worse with each wash. The pilling is visible, and the sheets begin to look sad and worn immediately. The roughness is the worst part. Not up to LLBean standards.
I purchased a set of the ultrasoft flannel sheets with blue stripes about four years ago and fell in love. I even used them into the summer. They have held up wonderfully and never pilled. So I decided to buy another set in the blue plaid. After a single wash and a week's worth of use they were pilling already. When I compared them to my striped set the material did not seem to feel at all the same. My plaid ones are now extremely pilled and starting to feel rough/thin in texture. Very very upsetting as these are not cheap! I don't know if this is a change in the material problem, or if it the plaid sheets (I noticed that the rating for the plaid sheets is lower for the striped ones in reviews).
I don't want to take my chances in getting a bad batch again, so I don't think I will be ordering them again.

Buffalo Plaid Flannel Flat sheet

This is one of the best investments we have made. The sheet took the place of a light blanket all winter - and winters in Maine are COLD! I can't sleep with too many blankets and we use a light quilt all summer so a compromise was made with the flannel flat sheet in the winter under the quilt and it made a world of difference. Perfect weight and just warm enough. Thanks.
Not all flannel sheets are created equally. Don't be fooled by cheaper flannel sheet sets which are flimsy and the weave is so thin you can almost shoot peas through them. This is not the case with the flannel sheets from L.L. Bean. The quality is excellent and they actually seem to get softer with each machine wash. Really look forward to going to bed on a cold night and feeling the immediate warmth of these sheets. They also look great on the bed. I would highly recommend these sheets.
