While LLB maintained its tradition of outstanding customer service, we ordered two in the light finish with leather cushions and had to exchange one due to a blob of wood stain on the arm. Assembly is not the easiest (requires two people and patience) but all parts were included and instructions mercifully clear. This item is a wonderful value, very stylish and comfortable enough for my tall husband and my 9-year-old (with the addition of a decorative lumbar pillow). Thanks again, Bean's!
While the quality of wood and dark leather seat are beautiful we were more than disappointed to find that our Father's Day present did not include a back to the chair. So we ended up with two ottomans...and an odd Father's Day present to give. LL Bean agreed to have the maker of the chair send us a back.
We ordered the darker finish with chenille cushions. Our home has a general vibe of "comfy + craftsman", and this fits in perfectly. The chair's proportions are just right - not super big and unnecessarily bulky, as are many pieces of furniture these days. However, it also feels very sturdy and is exceedingly comfortable. The wide arms are great for balancing a coffee mug, and after over a year of use the cushions are holding up well (and I like to say that the various cat scratches on the cushions and arms "add character").
Other reviewers commented on slippery cushions. This is definitely something I've noticed as well, though it's not a big deal to re-adjust them when you stand up, and is so minor as to be a non-issue.
The only real negative that I can report is the super-sharp corners on the edges of the chair's arms (which do jut out a bit). I've gotten a few bruises from walking into them, and when we have little ones toddling about then we'll definitely have to put caps on the corners.
I love this chair, and it completely met my expectations. I'm looking forward to ordering more furniture from LLBean in the future! Maybe that sofa after we move... :-)
We purchased two of the Morris chairs a couple of years ago, and have since added the five shelf book case, wall shelves, a desk and various tables along the way. We have been extremely pleased with all of the pieces. They are exceedingly easy to put together (even if your gender is not inclined to do so) and look fantastic. We were uneasy with the prospect of putting furniture we had to assemble in public areas of our home, but these pieces are all very solid looking and sturdy--in fact lovely. The desk top arrived damaged, but was replaced immediately--without having to return first. We wish Bean was still carrying the mission tables with inlaid slate tiles, as these are among our favorites for the family room--all of the beauty of wood, but with slate tile tops--perfect for snack dishes and anything else that you'd prefer not to come into contact with a wood table top.
