I purchased one of these several years ago to use as an airplane carry-on. It hasn't let me down yet. The 2 front pockets are good for easy access to reading & writing materials or snacks; the main compartment holds a light set of overnight necessities "just in case" I get stuck at some airport ! The wheels make it SO MUCH EASIER when I have to run for a connecting flight! The size is just right for the overhead compartment & the different designs are easy to find should you need to check it at the plane door. It has held up wonderfully. My ONLY COMPLAINT is that a purse doesn't balance when slung over the handle; it hangs. Others think it's great idea :) I may purchase another to better match my new luggage !
This backpack has served me probably for 4-5 yrs now and I am finally thinking of replacing it. I use it to bring everything I need to and from work every day from my car at the trolley station and then to my place of work and back again. I had worn out 2 previous rolling backpacks before-literally wearing the wheels in half-but the in-line skate wheels on the LL Bean bag have really held up. They have taken a beating as I'm constantly rolling over rough asphalt and tracks to my office and back to catch the trolley home. I wish I could replace those as the rest of the bag is in pretty good shape (except for the zipper on the main pocket which has two points where the zipper is not easy to close any more). I do see that the new bags don't have the mesh pockets on the sides and I have to concur with those comments that they did sag due to the pocket not being deep enough. Maybe in the future they can be added again only deeper. Definitely the right size to go on a plane or train and great for short trips. I'll gladly buy another of these bags in the near future.

I am so impressed with my shopping experience with the L.L. Bean company that I am taking the time to shout it to the world!! I purchased two Carryall Rolling Gear Bags and a Deluxe Rolling Bookpack long ago. After years of use the telescoping handle from the bookpack no longer functioned properly and there was a tear in a top seam. One of the wheels from the Carryall Rolling Gear Bag no longer rolled properly and was flipping from side to side making it a hassle to use. I am a working musician and use these great bags for my gear. I called customer service. They sent me a return shipping label and are replacing both bags free of charge.
