I had gotten this backpack for my son, He always wanted a rolling pack so I remember as a child that I always wanted a L.L Bean bag. Anyway, I got him this one. When I had gotten it My little boy was exited to get his new rolling pack. Come to find out that the one we order didn't have my son's name on there, it had someone else name on it. So I called L.L Bean and explain to them what the problem was and they fixed it of course and mailed me another one with the correct name and style within 2 days. I was very please with their customer service and how quickly they responded. I would recommend anyone to get this.
I purchased this bag for my 4th grade daughter. But like others, I have a couple of complaints. The zipper gets stuck with the flap, that's supposed to cover it, when opening and closing the book pack. This morning it took 2 adults to pull the fabric out of the zipper.
The idea that the shoulder straps have to be tucked into a pocket by a child every time she changes between carrying it and rolling it – is not very practical. As a result, after only 2 ½ months, the shoulder straps have shredded from being dragged and are of no use anymore.
I got this backpack for my 4th grader because her original back pack was getting too heavy for her. It held everything she needed (3 books, binder, towel, lunch box and water bottle) but walking with it on her back was killing her. So she got the rolling one for her birthday and is very happy with it...except for the size! I suppose in order to make room for the wheels and the handle, some space was sacrificed and I didn't realize this when we ordered it. She now has to hang her lunch box on the handle and carry her water bottle (and has even sometimes had to carry the binder) instead of stuffing everything in the bag. She's now asking for the bigger one but I can't shell out the money for another one so soon.
The fact that you have to unpack and clip on the straps isn't an issue for her because she never has a need to carry it so they always stay packed away.
