This is a very functional radio.............good sound and recption. It is made by Eaton which is recommended by disaster preparedness authors. The ability to charge a cell phone is a real plus! I have bought one for each of my children as Christmas gifts........a practical Mom!!! Alot of the functional buttons are under the solar panels. This will travel with me and my gun!
We live in a rural area and experience occasional power outages. The radio/ light combination is super useful. We realized during a recent power outage that all of our flashlights had run out of batteries, but our Emergency Weather Radio doesn't need batteries! The crank is great for nighttime when the solar panel is obviously useless. The cell phone charger works with the crank, but you have to have a USB charger for your phone. This is also a great everyday AM/FM radio to have around the house.
I bought this radio last year for my husband for Christmas. We live in a very rural area and lose power occasionally, so I thought this radio would be great. However, we can't get the radio to stay on for more than a couple of minutes. It won't stay in the battery mode.As soon as you turn it on it switches to solar/cell. And we can't get a weather station to come in. I'd like to return it, even though I bought it last year.
Love the idea of this radio for several reasons.The durablity and size are perfect for days spent on the beach, also for the harsh New England winters when losing power is a sure possibility. It is a must have for every home and outdoors person. We use ours in our camper,camping on the beach,at home during power outages. The worry free issue of dying batteries.. just wind it up.. and you are all set. The flash light is bright ... a excellent gift item!
