This Weather Radio is a neat looking compact radio that also receives fm and am. Good clear digital output with a nice backlight. Also good emergency flash light. The only problem is that you can not hear the weather on it. Before we took it back I went to Radio Shack and purchased a 34" telescoping antenna for $5.00 and it made a 100% difference in reception. Eaton needs to redesign the antenna because the one they send with is just is too short. Now the only problem is that since Eaton did not design the radio for the proper length antenna I have to fold the antenna over the solar panels on the radio and then it still extends to far. Back to the bench Eaton.
When a mesocyclone (or derecho) hit the area of IL where I live on May 8, we were without power or drinking water for 8 days, and surrounded by over 70,000 other people in similar conditions. This radio was in use constantly during each day, and for hours each night - regular radio, weather radio, flashlight - and it was TREMENDOUS! It was our link to the outside world that told us where to find stores that were open, services that were available and the progress of emergency crews. I hope you never find yourself in similar conditions, but if you do, I hope you have one of these radios nearby.
I love this radio! I always turn it on when we are expecting nasty weather. It works like a champ in the worst conditions. Negative: I never received the DC adapter I requested that the company advertised.
