There are pros and cons to this boot. Pros: for those of you who like me, had trouble with the Medium B width being too big, I found the narrow width to be a tighter fit in the toes, with extra room in the heel for a thin sock. For those like me who were looking for a waterproof boot, I was impressed by the fact that the foot is all rubber. It is true that the leather tongue is not completely sealed at the seams, but it is sealed right up to the second shoelace hole, so there is some water protection above the rubber foot to a point. I like the durable leather around the ankles and shins. It offers support and breathability. The cons: I live in a climate that on some days may be below minus 5 celcius and will require me to walk in snow and on slippery surfaces. I was concerned that the boot would not be useful in these conditions. The boot lacks a skid-proof heel. Also, if you are a walker and like a thick sole to absorb shock, I found the bottom of the boot to be quite thin. I did order a Gortex bootie liner to go inside for extra comfort and warmth but it was too big to fit inside the boot and also adds extra cost. It's a great boot for a great price if walking on soft, cold ground or in puddles, but in my opinion it is not a comfortable winter boot for long walks especially in icy conditions.
I ordered these shoes and they got here super fast. They are easily the most comfortable shoes ever, and that's saying a lot considering that they are cold-weather shoes (which tend to be stiff and heavy.) However, I ordered an entire size down (i'm an 8 and i got a 7) and they are still WAY too big for me! Definitely order a size down, if not two!
This was one of my best purchases yet. I wore them on a cold rainy day and they were great. Can't wait fo the snow to fall so I can wear them when I go to the mountain to ski.
Classic LL Bean Boot with extra warmth; Don't order a size smaller as recommended if you want to wear these boots with heavy socks; boots are only waterproof on the bottom - the tongue is separate and so at the leather, water can come in - it's a shame the technique used for hiking boots whereby the tongue has a fold, but is part of the boot was not used, as this would have increased the 'waterproofness' tenfold. As it its, they are great for snow, but wouldn't recommend them for anything else other than cold, shallow puddles.
