Fit is true, if you follow LL Bean's sizing recommendations. I usually wear women's size 8, and my foot is very wide. I ordered a 7 wide in these boots, and they are comfortable with thick winter socks. Roomy with regular socks, but not loose.
I waited until mid-winter here in Minneapolis, MN before writing my review, so I could see if the boots actually stand up to the cold temps (it has been as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit this year) and snow. They DO! My feet have been warm and dry all winter. I spend a fair amount of time outdoors walking and waiting for the bus. Even when standing still, my feet stay warm.
I used a beeswax-based waterproofing product on the leather and seams before ever wearing these boots. I don't think that was strictly necessary, but it did not damage the boots in any way, and my feet have certainly stayed dry.
I was worried that these boots would be too warm to wear indoors, but indeed they are not. They are comfortable to wear inside, and very attractive to boot (pun intended)!
You won't regret this purchase. Just go for it, already!
These are the best boots I have ever owned! I ordered them in black. So warm and comfy, like walking on gumdrops! But they run really large. I'm usually a 9.5-10 in most shoes and boots, I ordered the 9's and even with big socks there is still some room. I also wish the top three holes were hooks for ease, but the warmth and comfort outweigh the few wishes.
Bought these to wear for yucky Boston winters and so far, I'm completely in love with them! They keep my feet dry and warm when it's rainy and snowy out, and they're so comfortable. They were a little stiff at first, but they've only gotten more comfortable after each wear. I wear them for day to day things (going to class, running errands, shopping, etc.), usually all day long, and they've been comfy since first putting them on. Got them in black, they look polished and are really cute.
I would however definitely advise ordering a size down. I almost always wear a size 12, but the 11 fits perfectly with room for thicker socks.
I live in Chicago - armed with these boots and wool socks, I was the only person I knew whose feet were warm in the -30 degree weather. They are also incredibly waterproof. They stand up to 3 foot snow banks AND giant puddles. These boots are incredibly high in quality. They may be more expensive than other boots, but will last twice as long.
The leather portion is stiff at first, but quickly softens to make a very comfortable boot. I normally wear a 7 1/2 and the 7 fits great.
