I've never written an online review for a product, but I feel strongly enough about the quality of these boots to do so. I live in an urban setting and walk to work. I feel very stable walking on ice, snow, and uneven sidewalks in this boot.
These boots have kept my feet warm and dry in the rain and snow. I don't like wearing socks and often just wear tights with my Bean Boots and then change into other shoes when I get into my office. I bought a full size smaller than usual and they fit great with just tights or even with wool socks. The lining is very warm, but I've also noticed that my feet don't get overheated when I'm in the grocery store, or somewhere else indoors for a while.
I'm not really an "outdoorsy" person and typically shop for fashion over function, but these boots managed to fit the bill for both. I don't lace them up all the way and the shearling is visible. They aren't clunky and are very easy to walk in. I've had many compliments. I'm very happy with my purchase and anticipate having these boots for years!
As a former LL Bean "Wicked Good" shearling boot wearer, I was tired of the boot not being waterproof and getting all mucked up in deep snow and in the spring when New England trails are a combination of snow, ice, and mud. I needed a boot that would perform better on my winter and late winter/early spring hikes with the dog. This boot fits the bill. I can't believe I have made it this long without them. They are super comfortable, have a bit of arch support, are warm, waterproof, and perfect for trudging through woods and fields in all sorts of weather.
Sizing...I wear 8.5 in dress shoes and 9 in my running shoes. I had to purchase size 7 in these! Even with thick wool socks the 7s are perfect.
I called all of the L.L.Bean stores around me and these literally were the last pair of bean boots left in my size in any of the stores and all of the ones online were sold out or on back order for months and I am glad I did! I live in NJ and work NYC and these are great for commuting in the winder slush/ rain. I am almost always a size 10 in everything from sneakers to heels and I had to go a full size down to a 9 and they fit great. They come right below my calf which is the perfect height for winter boots and they are not heavy or clunky looking at all which is always a concern when you have larger feet. When laced up I can't even tell I am wearing boots. The lining does not go down into the foot part like Uggs which is great because it won't get matted down and make the boot bigger as I wear them. All in all a wonderful purchase and worth the money!
I really wanted to love these, but unfortunately they just aren't warm enough, even with thick socks. 10 minutes walking around in slush and snow and I couldn't feel my toes.
They run very big, so you definitely need to size down. They should feel very snug, but the shearling wears down quickly so that they'll fit perfectly if you can take a few days of uncomfortableness.
They are stylish and comfy (after the breaking in period), but I need boots that will keep my toes warm, and these just don't cut it. They'll have to go back. :(
