It's true there is not much (OK, no) padding in the foot bed, but with thick socks made specifically for boots the problem is solved (socks with extra padding on the bottom). I also wear arch support in all my shoes (too much running and pregnancies killed my arches) and these are no exception. I am two years into my brown pair - really almost no difference from the day I bought them - leather is SLIGHTLY softer, but not a ton. They look great and I wear them in snow and rain (and in between). I also wear them rolled down in the fall - which really looks cute with skinny jeans/cords! The only issue I have is the same issue I have with pretty much EVERY SINGLE SHOE MAKER on the face of the earth - I am 5'10" 140 pounds and have BIG feet (for a lady!) at a size 10.5. Exactly. No, an 11 does not fit properly, nor does a 10. The issue with having big feet is only in that I do NOT have big ankles. I really have to crank down on the laces at the bottom of these boots to get a snug fit. I guess they all assume that big feet=big ankles. Also, I own a size 9, but truly an 8.5 would have been perfect - no half sizes are available. All in all these are truly great boots and I adore them. The shearling is very warm and helps the boots feel better on my leg and ankle. I would buy them again in a heartbeat, but I do wish they offered some "skinny ankle" version and half sizes.
Please bring in the Black color in Wide next year!

Particularly in the black, this boot has the potential to be extremely versatile -- a cold-weather boot that's tough enough for the woods, yet sleek and warm enough for a woman to wear on a long fitness walk in to work. Sadly, at the moment, all that's available for women with Wide feet is the brown, which has a more traditional rustic look. Next year, please bring in the black color in Wide widths, so that us customers with Wide feet can invest in a pair. Then we'll enjoy our extended walks to work even when it's really cold!
I searched for months and tried on many pairs of boots, with no luck. I have wide feet, muscular calves, and a host of foot problems, including old injuries for which I must wear orthotics. These boots fit like they were custom-made for me! I sang & danced when I put them on! They are so comfortable, with good arch support. They are wide enough in the footbed and on the calves for me to wear them over wool socks or leggings. The laces give extra support to my ankles, as well as securing a proper fit throughout. They are warm enough for me to wear while standing outside for two hours in the cold at my weekly puppy play date or out on the back hiking trails, yet breathable enough to wear all day at work. And did I mention how great they look, whether with snowpants or a dress? I have gotten so many compliments on them! I love my Bean Boots, and will come to you again for all my boot needs!
