These boots are very warm, fit well. I did however return them as I decided I wated something dressy that could be worn with both slacks and jeans. This boot is of course, intended for a more casual wearing. Still I enjoyed seeing the high quality of another L L Bean product.
I love the look and durability of these boots, but I have to agree with what the other reviewers are saying. I live in Boston, and vowed never to wear Uggs outside again, so I wanted to give these a try. They are by all means winter boots, and while the shearling does keep your shins and ankles warm, my toes are always freezing (they almost seem to trap the cold in), even though I'm wearing super thick wool socks (which you'll need to if you're a size 6 and cannot size down).
These boots are not made for snow. While they are super comfortable and kept my feet toasty and warm before the snow came, they did not perform well in the snow. Today I was outside for only about 30 minutes playing in the snow with my kids, and my toes were FROZEN. It was 25 degrees outside, what's going to happen when the negative temperatures hit here in Alaska? Also, the laces are much too short, while I was able to lace them up all the way, I could not tie them. I usually wear a 9.5 - 10, and ordered these in a 9 based off of the reviews. It does fit well, so make sure you order a size smaller than normal.
I am super disappointed in this item, and am not sure if I will buy anything else from L.L. Bean because I just purchased another item from L.L. Bean (a coat) that I will be returning as well. The quality has certainly gone down hill.
I wear an 8.5 so I ordered the 8 and the fit was a little loose with thin socks, but thicker socks will be perfect. I don't think I'll need super heavy socks since they are insulated and extremely warm already. I haven't worn them out and about yet as the weather is still fairly warm, but i can tell this New York winter i will have warm, dry feet.
