I've worn this alone as a shirt, as an over shirt with a simple t-shirt underneath, and recently as a layer in my snowboarding ensemble. It's warm and fuzzy and has now become a staple element in my winter wardrobe. I don't think I'd winter without It. The Sherpa collar just seals the deal!
I bought this item a few years back, and I really thought then that it was just too thin to be functional. However, I came to love it as it was surprisingly warm for such lightweight fabric. When the original one was messed up with a stain, I was delighted to see that the item was still available.
One problem: I bought the same size, and it is considerably larger than the original one. Can't tell if the 1st one shrank, or if sizing has changed at LL Bean. I'll find out as I launder this one.,
It is a rather boxy fit, and I would prefer a little more shaping. Pockets would've been preferable as well. The little iPod pocket on the sleeve is pretty much useless.
It is a perfect weight for so many winter days here in the south, that I was willing to overlook those issues. I'm enjoying the new one.
If you want a thick, very warm top for a freezing winter day, this is not for you. But if you want something soft and just warm enough for a cold spring day or summer evening, this is perfect. I like the pastel colors for summer so I don't look wintry when it's an August night in the 60s. I have an older version of this I wear a lot; the newer one is even softer.
