I just received two new fitness fleece pullovers. I've bought these for many years and have always loved them. I did notice that awhile back the material became thicker and a bit more "stiff" but they were still warm w/o the weight and comfortable, so though I didn't love them as much as the originals, I was still happy. 90% of the time these are used for running. I ordered new ones because I'd noticed that some of my older pullovers are really pilling on the interior, which doesn't feel good if worn alone. I was extremely happy to find that there is a smooth interior lining with the current design. I am hopeful that it will deter the pilling, yet continue to wick the way it always has. Very happy with the construction and the feel of the fleece. It's even a bit thinner than the last few I ordered, which takes it back to that more comfortable feel I'd grown to love with the original pullovers. From a sports standpoint, I think the fitness fleece has reached a point of perfection...assuming it stands up to the normal wear and tear!
LL Bean is an old friend, one I trust. But this year, my "live in all the time" fitness fleece was downgraded to a less expensive fleece. It isn't the double sided napped warm fleece, it's the slick shiny cold one sided fleece. The nap is on the outside and the cold is next to my skin. Not pleasant. I understand that companies have had to cut expenses for a variety of reasons, our economic climate just isn't business friendly...but I just can't accept this kind of fabric. Not to mention I always have to buy 1X for length & get it tailored down to a size L. PLEASE LL Bean, give us an option of better fleece?
For years I have been waiting for replacements for the quarter zip poly top you sold years (a decade?) ago and this one is close. The fit is nice, not too form-fitting. A little long for my taste - but I just hem them up. I have two of them now - but would buy more if they came in more neutral colors and lighter shades, like a heather grey or oatmeal, light taupe or dusty shades of blue or green.
Unlike many other fleece tops or wool sweaters, these tops seem to adapt to the temperature you are in. They are so light and easy to wear inside without ever seeming to 'overheat' you, while providing a cozy layer when out of doors. For example, I love the chamois shirts as well, but often find them too hot inside. These are not, yet provide the same comfort level .They have almost totally replaced any other top for fall/winter wear. I am very sensitive to rough or scratchy clothing next to my skin, and find this extremely comfortable.
I am in and out constantly during the day, and find I do not have to 'layer' beyond a jacket if I am wearing this.
A small fits well on my 5 ft 130 lb frame. I wash in cold water, and usually hang outside to dry.
