Scratchy after washing

These sheets felt amazing until I washed them (in cold water, with fabric softener). They are beautiful, but feel like sandpaper. Has anyone else had this experience?

Ordered the fitted sheet last year for a deeper mattress. Had to have the flat sheet and pillow cases to go with it. I am a bed linens freak. These provide excellent quality and feel after many washes.
