Although I have been very happy with other Waterhog products (the car mats, of which in the past we've bought three sets), this doormat was an unfortunate choice. After a rain, it holds water like a sponge, water which ends up in the vestibule of our house after sloshing it in from the bottoms of our shoes. And though we've only had it for a a week or so, it sheds each time we wipe our feet on it, leaving balls of the synthetic material on our stoop (perhaps with more use it would stop shedding). I cannot recommend this particular Waterhog product.

Thank you for sending your feedback. It's always great to hear from loyal customers, and we're sorry that you're disappointed with this mat. We've noticed similar reports from other customers. It might be helpful to know that the long fibers in this mat look like natural cocoa fibers, yet they won't develop mold or break down prematurely like cocoa tends to. As you've found, however, the long fibers are prone to a short period of shedding, and they drain less quickly than our standard Waterhog mats. We've noted these points on the product descriptions on our Web site so other customers will know what to expect.

Great for wet Pacific NW days
PostedMay 24, 2009
I live in the rainy part of Washington. (It is gray and rainy 5 days a week sometimes.) This mat is great. I have to walk the dog at least 3 times a day and it helps trap dirt and other debris from the woods. I still bring some in the house with me but not as much as before. I really like the monogram too. It gives it an extra touch of home as you come in the door. I'm not sure how much I'd like it without the monogram, it seems like it might be too much plain space.
After looking at the other reviews, I think mine may have been defective. I have three indoor waterhogs that I love, but the one I got for outdoors on my deck held water like a sponge. When we stepped on it over an hour after rain stopped, the water just bubbled up at our feet. We lifted it up and the water poured out of it. I rerely return anything to llbean, but I did return this rug. Anybody else have this problem?

Thank you for posting your comments. We're happy to hear that you're pleased with your indoor Waterhog mats, and we apologize for the trouble you've had with this coir-style mat. The long fibers in these mats have the look of natural fiber without the drawbacks of mold and rapid wear, but as you note, they do not drain as quickly as our standard Waterhog mats. We have read similar reports from other customers, so we've added this information to our Web site so that everyone can easily find the right mat for their needs.
Please contact us anytime you have a concern. Our 100% satisfaction guarantee is part of our commitment to making sure you're happy with every item you buy from L.L.Bean. Again, thanks for sending your feedback, and we're sorry for the inconvenience.

Problem Solved
PostedApril 19, 2009
Two years ago we moved into the middle of a large field in NC. As building and excavating proceed we regularly deal with lots of mud around the property, that nice red mud the South is known for. I have ruined every rug we've tried so far, they inevitably turn as red as the ground outside making our back (main) entrance an eye sore when guests come over. I chose the natural color, Coir-style Waterhog Doormat figuring at least the color is as close to mud red as I could get. The first time my daughter tromped mud all over it, I thought, "Well, there goes that one." Funny thing was that as it dried, the dirt particles seemed to just let go and fall through the pile ready to be shaken out or to vacuum up later. Wow, no sign of red dirt. I love this rug. The only problem I have is that the pile is so deep that my vacuum can't seem to draw the dirt up from between the cracks unless I get the brush out, so I prefer just to shake it out. Problem solved. Thank you LLBean.
