I looked for a new winter coat for 3 years before I chose this one. It is a good length (keeps your middle warm, but not so long you sit on it). It is not cut too tight so you can wear a sweater underneath, but it's flattering. Great color and fabric. If I have a criticism, it's that without the fur the hood doesn't fall forward enough over your head (I'd do without the fur if I could). On the other hand, the hood works in that it covers your head and ears. I looked for that feature for a long time before I found this coat. I'm very happy with it and would definitely recommend it.
Living in NJ and waiting for the bus every day, I need a really good winter coat. Last year, we had frigid temperatures and I vowed to get a better coat before this year. I ordered this coat in a small. I am 5' 5" and 125 lbs. The coat fit me just fine, enough room to wear a sweater or bulky clothing underneath if I wanted to. I liked the lining at the end of the sleeves. However, COME ON LL BEAN! WISE UP! I agree with all the other posters that this jacket NEEDS a drawstring at the bottom! I returned the coat solely for this reason. It is just wide open and doesn't "hug" your body at all at the bottom. I feel like the lack of this feature completely negates the fact that this is a warm, down jacket. It didn't quite cover my rear and I felt any type of wind would just blow up into the coat. I chose to return it for the longer 3/4 version. At least then it comes down to my mid-thigh and will actually keep my torso warm.
