I am frequently cold and do not do well in frigid weather. So it would be fair to ask me why I live in Rochester, NY. This winter has been even worse than usual with all the polar vortices and all. My old coat wasn't cutting it. This one had the word "Ultrawarm" in the name, which is probably why I bought it. So good job, llbean marketing department!
But it actually is ultrawarm. Which isn't even a word but it sort of is a thing. I feel almost like this coat is generating heat. I'm not kidding. I think it's my own heat being maximized and forced back on me but whatever witchcraft is at play, it works.
I'm a rather hefty gal, so I bought the XL and it is quite roomy. I probably could have gone with a large. But maybe that's why it works so well, with enough room for the air to be trapped and warmed up in there.
Ordered the jacket and received it promptly, however it went promptly back. The jacket was flimsy, thin with a wide bottom, no string to tighten it. I doubt it could protect at +30 let alone at - temperatures. Really not worth the price or better said I would not wear it even if I got it for free! I don't know why LL Bean keeps manufacturing it.
I bought this for my daughter-in-law. They live in Utah. She is absolutely loving it. It is the perfect fit for her busy life and playing in the snow with the kids.
