I got a med in the raspberry color. I am 5'2" and can wear a Med sometimes a large in LL bean clothes. This jacket is very cozy and attractive. Yes, it doesn't really define your waist..but what heavier coat does? It is pretty hard to find a warm jacket(especially down) that is not "boxy". But the colors and style make up for that. Very feminine and of course warm. I got this jacket for everyday wear with temps between 15 to 30. For something below that you would probably need a heavier coat(like a parka). This jacket is still roomy inside, enough to wear a sweater. Thank you LL Bean for making a great jacket.
I was so disappointed that this coat didn't fit well. The pink was gorgeous. I am 5'4 and normally wear a 14-16. The petite xl was so short. It looked like it was wearing a tent shaped puffy coat. It wasn't flattering in the least. The hood was huge. I did notice that the sleeves had a nice lining to keep the wind from blowing up them.
I wanted to like this coat. The down makes it nice and warm and I love the sleeves; they are just the right length and fullness and the inside fleece wrist cuff is super soft. But the fit of the bodice, as some other reviewers have shared, is too large and too boxy, and without any cinch at the waist or hem, cold air will pump up underneath with movement. Also I didn't care for the faux fur (my husband called it road kill); I tried to fluff it up to look like the pictures on the website to no avail. If you zip the fur off, then the other half of the zipper remains along the outside edge of the hood, which was a look I didn't care for.
