I have been an L.L. Bean customer for 35 yrs. and find that the fit and quality are not what they used to be. I bought this jacket in petite large (for layering) which was roomy in the body but snug in the arms even without a sweater. I've returned it for an extra-large which may prove to be too wide in the body but I need more room in the shoulders and arms for shoveling snow this winter. The fur trim obscures one's vision too much but it is removable. The two-way front zipper, nice-fitting hood, the three zippered pockets and interior goggle pocket are all very nice features but since the fit is off, the product disappoints.
I first ordered this in an XL. It was HUGE so returned it for a L. The coat is very boxy and has no shape to it. When I received the large, I noticed that there was no fur on the hood which I would have taken off anyway. It wasn't particularly good looking on the XL I got. I tried on the L yesterday to see how it felt .. not good and when I took it off, there were severeal little feathers that had poked through the material.
This is the first time I've ever returned an item to LLBean because of quality. Everything else I've bought I've been pleased with. I have returned items that didn't fit but were good quality.
I was happily surprised when this coat fit me perfectly. As my name implies I am broad in the hips. I'm also narrow in the shoulder/chest area and have trouble finding coats that fit. If this is your problem as well, I recommend you buy this coat to fit your shoulders and you shouldn't have a problem with your hips. Thanks LLBean I couldn't be happier!
The jacket was roo large and boxy. It had no real shape to it. I wish the linesw went up and down ( vertical) instead of going across). I was very disappointed. I was looking i forward to the jacket :(
