Trench Defeats -10 Weather
PostedJanuary 20, 2009
I purchased this trench in hopes to block the snow, rain, wind and cold. Don't let the light weight and "flimsy" feel be deceiving. I recently tested the coat on the coldest day in Chicago (-18, heavy winds) and let me tell you, this coat kept me warm! To test it even further, I wore a cheap cotton sweater, thin acrylic jacket and this trench- walked 10 blocks and felt warm/dry the entire time. I gave this 4 stars because the coat exceeded its main functions- keep me dry, keep me warm. I have minor cosmetic complaints.
Pros: This coat kept me completely dry and warm, blocked the harsh Chicago winds (even along the lake), fits with multiple layers underneath, terrific length to keep pants dry, beautiful red color, hood easy to put on and remove, I found the pockets to be deep enough and secure.
Cons: XS too large at thighs/legs but fits upper half of body, needs one more snap at very bottom as coat blows open as I walk, could use a belt for snug fit, not a very stylish cut, hood blocks peripheral view, nervous that snap base will tear off when unsnapped, wool liner needs to be thicker, liner should be re-zipped slowly as it can catch and snag, and more pockets or a zipper pocket on the inside would be nice.
Overall, I highly recommend this jacket, more for function than style.

Great coat
PostedJanuary 18, 2009
My mother loves this coat! She initially purchased the mesh-lined version and loved it so much that she bought this one as well. She never has any trouble with wearing sweaters or heavy clothes under it. She's 5'9" and the length is great for her. She says that cuffs on the sleeves would be a great addition, but on the whole she is completely satisfied. Even on very cold mornings (we've had some recently) she stays nice and toasty.

LOVE this coat
PostedJanuary 15, 2009
I first bought this coat many years ago (possibly 15 years?) and it has been one of the best investments I have made wardrobe-wise. I wear it 3 seasons out of the year, rain and snow, except for when it is extremely cold. I agree it can be snug around the hips if you are layering a long jacket or sweater underneath, so consider your hip measurement when ordering, but it is an essential I cannot do without. It is finally time to invest in a new one as the zipper is getting a little unreliable, but other than that it still does the job and looks good for its age and the number of times it has been worn. It is a great product that I hope you continue to carry for years to come.

Perfect
PostedJanuary 14, 2009
I bought this long trenchcoat in black with liner for the windy rainy winters we have. It is perfect. The deep pockets, handy inside pocket, warmth and wind resistance are some of the factors that make me pack this for every trip. I have found the liner easy to zip out and in and the hood easy to snap on and take off. Great value and well worth the price. I can't think of anything that could be added to this coat to make it better.
