This trench coat is a keeper. It's a comfortable classic. I went out in the morning and stayed nicely warm with the lining in. The lining is easy to remove as the day got much warmer in the afternoon. The wind was still kept away and I stayed comfortable. This will easily be a 3-season coat.
This raincoat is fabulous! I first saw this raincoat on a colleague at at conference 3 years ago. It looked so great on her...I asked her where she purchased it...she said LL Bean. When I was searching for a raincoat this year I remembered how good it looked on my co-worker. I bought the coat a month ago...I have worn it almost everyday since then. It fits well, it's light. It makes me look professional for business but not too dressy for casual occasions. This raincoat is well-constructed...also holds up through wind and rain. I would recommend this raincoat to anyone!
The wool lined trench coat is great during transitional weather, those days not cold enough for winter wear, not warm enough for spring rainwear. I did have difficulty with the zipper not working (twice!) and LL Bean Customer Service was very helpful in expediting the exchange and "handpicking" one that worked.
I am very disappointed with this raincoat. In 2001, I think, I ordered the equivalent of this coat and loved it. I purchased that one in what I think you were calling Loden Green at that time and I've used every winter since then. In January of 2002 I wore it on a trip to Holland and found it excellent. When we went on sabbatical to Holland in 2004/2005 I took it as my winter coat and found it the best purchase I've ever made. I liked the cape effect, the fact that I could cinch in the waist to keep drafts out, the sizing was perfect for layering extra layers under and the two hidden pockets on the inside meant I didn't always have to carry a purse with me as I could put money in one pocket and key to flat in the other. The fabric has a nice hand and drapes softly and I appreciated that the sleeves on the lining had buttons so that the liners stayed in place when I took the coat off. So, for this current trip to Europe I ordered the coat in blue as I needed to update my colors and I was heartily tired of the green. When the coat arrived I quickly tried it on, deemed it a fit and while I noticed the fabric was stiffer and different decided to pack it. I've worn it only once, and the weather in England has been cold enough that I should be wearing it more than that, but I hate this coat! The fabric is stiff and feels tight. The cut of the coat does not allow for any extra layers. The body of the coat is cut too straight and thus clings to my body when I walk, and is not comfortable for sitting in. Because the fabric is so stiff this clinging makes the coat feel cold. When I took the coat off the sleeve linings pulled out and I had to put them back in place. And, with no way to tighten in the waist the coat felt drafty. When we return home in late June I'll be returning the coat to you as I just don't like it and won't wear it. So, I guess the green coat I purchased in fall of 2001 will be pressed into service for many more winters. Sigh...I so want and need a new color but I hate what you have done to this wonderful coat. Please, PLEASE go back to the old fabric, styling and detail. It was a winner!
