I needed a new jacket last year and after looking at all the jackets offered by LLBean, I decided on this one. The jacket by itself is great. It has kept me dry on many rainy days. I just can't stand the liner. It is nice and soft but when zipped into the shell it makes the whole jacket feel snug. With a sweater the jacket was too tight. This may be okay if you like your jacket to fit close but I like having room to move my arms and be able to wear a sweater when the weather turns cold. I even tried wearing the liner without zipping it into the shell. That was a little better but still too snug with a sweater. I kept the jacket because it is great for rainy days. I am going to order a fleece to wear underneath the shell for cold weather. The fleece liner will be worn around the house on colder days.
Overall I'm very pleased with the coat. My only complaint is that the jacket does not go over sweaters or fleece tops very well, it clings to them making it difficult to get the coat on and off.
I really like my 3n1. The flexibilty and comfort are really nice. The only thing I would like to see changed is the pocket lining on the outer shell. Mesh pockets just do not work well in the winter time. I recommend the same material as in the inner shell. I give 5 stars to the LLBean quality otherwise.
I baptized this jacket last weekend during a five hour hike at 8000 ft. in pouring rain. I wore it all snugged up, driver's license zipped up in pocket etc. and (with the aid of rain pants) came out perfectly dry. My friend whose outfit looked like it should have kept him dry, including jacket, hood, and plastic poncho over all, came out perfectly wet down to the wet driver's license in his wallet in his pocket and soggy underwear. I do believe the Weather Challenger 3 in 1 will stand up to just about anything.
