I bought this jacket to be my only jacket while I was in Europe for a year and was highly disappointed when the zipper to the outside coat broke, during last winter. The zipper has small plastic teeth really not good for constant use. The zipper also made the front of the jacket very bulky with empty pockets let alone putting gloves in the pockets.
The coat when I could get it zipped was great for keeping the rain out and stopping the wind but the outer coat sometimes just seamed weird to wear alone and was very bulky to put in a backpack for the type of material it is.
What saved me in the cold days when I could not get the jacket zipped on the outside zipped, I would unzip the liner and zip that together and that would work well.
Solid 3 in 1 jacket. Used and abused this jacket during 3 day ski trip in the poconos and during commutes in last winter's miserable weather. I'm a commuter so it kept me warm and dry. Very waterproof, but not as windproof. I did feel the wind cut across my back on more than one occasion. Velcro cuffs also tend to pull on the nylon a bit and cause fuzzies at the wrists. Good pocket placement.
The only thing I would caution people is the fleece with long sleeves shirts. The reviews are pretty accurate but that is the nature of a fleece. It tends to cling to things.
