Excellent jacket, if the zippers match you can zip a vest into the shell. So I set it up with my LL Bean vest. Which is just right for my Nordic Ski Patrolling.
Not sized to wear over layers so order large if you are a medium and expect to wear over layers.
I have had this coat for several years and love the feel, the comfort, and the style. However, I need to replace it because the zipper is so flimsy. It is very difficult to get it lined up right - you cannot do it with gloves on. Once zipped up, it frequently comes apart on the bottom, making it a struggle to get the coat off. I am completely fed up with it. I hope LLB wakes up and puts a more sustantial zipper in this coat, similar to the one in their Stonnington jacket. If they do that, then I will buy another one of these jackets. Until then, don't bother. LLB, are you listening?
Bought this jacket for my 78 year old father who lives in Central Illinois after finding out all of his winter outwear was broken/irreparable. He was wearing a windbreaker in -20 weather. My mother who had recently passed away always took care of these sort of things. He does not like heavy coats and wanted something he could wear "layers" under. According to him, this was the "perfect" coat. Exceptionally warm, without being too heavy, the length goes over his hips which keeps his waist warm, which was a requirement. He loves the color which goes well with his Scandinavian blue eyes. I like LL Bean as they work with me on the phone to help me find just the right item for my elderly parents. This coat is a winner.
Really like this jacket. Had to take back another Bean coat because the zipper had issues. Traded it in for the weather challenger. Makes a super ski jacket. Just warm enough without making you hot. Easy to break down if you just want the shell or the fleece. Great for everyday wear here in the winter of Maine. The only negative is the unlined pockets, but most people wear gloves so it's a minor issue.
