I bought this jacket for my 24 year old son for Christmas. It has a durable outside jacket, flexible because of the zip out liner which can be worn separately, waterproof and stands up to our winters and many other months of difficult and changeable weather. My son actually wears this jacket constantly so it has been really tested the past couple of months.
I've never worn the liner inside the nylon outer jacket--it hasn't been cold enough around here since I got it. The outer jacket, alone, is fine for air temps between 40 and 50, F., too warm for higher temps. The fleece liner, alone, is fine for temps between 30 and 40.
This jacket is a wonderful fit and the quality and attention to detail are exceptional. the fabric and linings are very well tailored and crisp looking. My only criticism with this jacket is the struggle to get it on and off with the liner in; any other layers of clothing such as your LLB warm up fleece or your Polartech 200 fleece( both of which I own) do not allow the weather challenger jacket to be pulled on or off easily. In addition, after the sleeves are pulled on to their full extent the end of the lining bunches up outside of the outer shell. I would like to suggest a satin or other fabric lining in the sleeves of the fleece inner jacket and perhaps something of a fastening mechanism to prevent the inner sleeves from bunching up. Overall, this is a stylish and well made garment that will serve me well for many years to come. My Weather Challenger jacket won the challenge of our elements here in Nfld.
