It came with a lot of yarn sticking up - some loops and some cut surfaces. I figured that another one would probably be the same so did not return it. I was able to push some threads into the backing and cut others off.
I have purchased these rugs for a few years and love everyone of them!! They are like artwork to me. I have one for every season and use them by my back door. They are functional and pretty at the same time. I also have washed them and they wash great!!
I purchased the rug with the Springer Spaniel on it. The "dog" looked nothing like a springer spaniel, the rug has beautiful coloring, but very disappointed with the picture.
