I ordered these boots for the purpose of walking the dogs when it rains. They are sturdy and do not slip on slick surfaces. I think the height of the boot is ideal - 1-2" below knee. I normally am a size 6.5 so I ordered 7 and it works. Beware though that these are not the most comfortable to wear for hours at a time. But they are perfect for my needs.
Loved these boots and was impressed by the quality, but unfortunately if you have even the teensiest calf muscles, these boots will be too tight for you. They also should consider making the shaft a bit taller, as the cut-off point for the boots is not that flattering on most legs. Still a great deal, and if you have narrow (or probably even average) calfs, a good bet for you. Had to return mine unfortunately...
I ordered the Bean's Wellies, Yellow Umbrella, size 7, my usual size. Shoe size fit fine, but top calf circumference is very small. Since I'm am 5'2", and have larger calves they were too darn tight. Maybe they should have pettite sizes with larger openings to accomadate everyone. Have to send back, unfortunately.
