I bought this bed in the Large size in hopes that my 40 lb mutt and 25 lb puggle would be able to share it. Unfortunately, even though it was "large" it is a bit too small for the 40 lb. dog. However, my puggle absolutely LOVES it! I even have to send it with her when she visits my mom. Like all LL Bean products, the quality is great. It's nice and soft, but is sturdy and has a lot of cushion to it. Even better, the cushion is still nice and full despite all the use it's gotten; unlike cheaper dog beds where they get flatter with a week's worth of use. My only other complaint is that the cushion is not washable. I was concerned at first about the price, however, it is well worth it. Now LL Bean just has to make it bigger so all 3 of my dogs can have one!
Our new Border Collie/Beagle mix loves this bed. He sometimes even chooses to sleep in it rather than on our bed.
We got him the largest size available, which when we got it home seemed a bit smallish for a 40# dog, but he just seems to love curling up on it, or hanging his head over the side of the basket edge chewing his favorite toy.
The bed also really looks nice sitting out in the bedroom. The material is high quality and has the appearance of something which will last a long time. I bet it will, since our last dog bed from LLBEAN lasted for 5 years of heavy use by a Lab.
My Yorkie is pretty picky about his bed. When I brought this bed home and put him on it, he immediately laid down instead of hoping out (which is what he normally does with new beds). Late afternoon the same day, he took his stuffed teddy bear on to this bed, rolled on his back and went right to sleep. He looks so comfortable! The bed is very well constructed and sturdy. Easy to clean and I love that it had a "canvas" side for the warmer months. Your dog will love it!!
I purchased this bed because of a surgery my dog was having and needed something soft to recover in. After only 8 weeks the back of the bed where it meets the back rest had lost it's cushion. This makes my dog sink back because of little to no support. It made it hard for her to get out. I rolled up a small blanbket and placed it under the cushion toward tha back which supported her back. Not a good resolve for a bed costong $189.00
