We found that the steering was too stiff for my grandson to use. I've suggested some sort of lubrication to his father. If that doesn't work, I may call on LLBean about how to correct the problem. My grandson is a strong and healthy 2.25 year old and was so delighted with his firetruck that he lit up all over, but was frustrated when he couldn't turn it. I'm sure we can correct the problem so that I'll be thrilled and he'll be happier with his fire truck!!!
I think this is just "ok"...really nothing special in my opinion. Reasons: 1. steering wheel seems hard to turn, especially since a child will be doing it. 2. the handle does NOT turn the car, so if you are pushing a child that is not able to turn, you won't be able to do it for him/her. I thought the handle would have been able to control the front wheels. 3. Assembly was HARD. I don't know if things changed since other said it was easy but you had to screw in the parts and tighten the bolts INSIDE the engine body which was really difficult especially when installing the chassis because this has a cross bar and NO ROOM for your hand to fit in and get inside the engine. I gave up and told my husband to do it because I was about to throw this out! He did it and managed with some of his own tools (the tools they give you are not great). anyway for the $150 list price or even the $80 sale price they should have had some of these parts already assembled.
