I liked this shirt and it fit nicely when it arrived but it shrank enough after the first wash that it no longer fit comfortably. I normally order size large shirts from LL Bean but this one ran a bit small. I gave this one away and will reorder an XL. It's a nice shirt.
I LOVE this shirt! To date I have seven of them in varying colors and styles (with buttons and without). They are great layering pieces and transition wear for fall to winter and winter to spring. I wear alone or over t-shirts for the "warmer" weather or under a sweater for the colder days. Living in the northeast, I wear these 8 months out of the year. The only downside is my wife has started to wear them them to lounge and sleep in.
I have two or three of LL Bean's Henley style River Driver shirts and like them a great deal. So I decided to try a crewneck version in Burnt Sienna. The result is not quite what I expected in three regards:
1) The fabric of the shirt I received feels just slightly thinner, less substantial;
2) The sleeve cuffs are not as snug as on my Henley versions; I lke snug cuffs;
3) As I've noted in my review of Henley River Drivers I wear an XL in LL Bean shirts but only need an L in River Drivers (and even then they're none too tight or short-of-sleeve). This crewneck River Driver runs even a bit larger than the Henley.
None of these points render my new crewneck unsatisfactory; I really like the color and it will work well to add warmth and itch resistance for wool shirts around town this winter.
If my crewneck is the norm then I definitely prefer the Henley version.
Of course my perceived differences between this crewneck and my Henleys could be a result of LL Bean needing to obtain these shirts from different suppliers which all large retailers need to do from time to time.
