Exactly as advertised, an immensely useful shirt, 3, maybe 4 season (depending on where you live) shirt. A great first layer against the chill, as its 'skinfeel' is very comfortable. I find it best over a light silk or fine wool base, maximizes heat retention. I have a bunch of these, solid piece of clothing.
I've adored L.L. Bean for a number of years now, and this is the first thing I've returned for not liking it. So I'm not a chronic complainer. :-)
The product description includes this phrase: "Warm cotton/wool blend, with a soft, itch-free cotton backing"
While the backing IS cotton, I found that the wool fibers still poked through. It wasn't a huge pain, but there WERE numerous irritations that occured. Bean used to offer a similar shirt that was all-cotton, so I hope they start carrying them again.
But as usual, Bean's outstanding customer service took care of the exchange quickly and pleasantly. I continue to be convinced that Bean is the only retailer in the U.S. whose staff are truly nice and committed to their customers.
