I bought this shirt for my son and he wears it as a shirt and as a base layer. It is warm, not to light, not too heavy. He now has a dark grey one and a medium blue one.
I am a loyal L.L. Bean customer but I cannot recommend this shirt. I bought it for my husband for Christmas and we are not happy with the purchase. We discovered prior to the first washing that tag says the shirt should be dried flat. This isn't a good option for a guy's casual shirt. During the first wear, we discovered how itchy the fabric is. I wish we would have realized this before I washed it and my husband wore it.
My husband wears a tall medium size. This has long enough sleeves to fit and is not too bulky. He can wear it inside a heated room, then head out to the garage and remain warm (California "cold"). He requested the crew neck after his favorite in the henley style got torn while he was doing a project. That's now a chore only shirt. I love the fact this looks good and classic on him. Thanks!
Haven't had these in years...accidently ordered a size L for my partner instead of M. Tried it on and it fit me! Merry Chistmas to me! Every bit as nice as I remembered. They run plenty roomy, as I would normally wear an XL.
