We bought this item for our granddaughter and just got a call that one of the wheels fell off on her way to the first day of school. We are traveling and hope to call L.L. Bean today and find out how well they stand behind their products. Even so, the first time you use a student back pack it should not have the wheels fall off!
My daughter has used her bag for over a year. I purchased one for my 7 year old son. Last year he went through 2 of the cheaper department store bags. It is a great value for the money, especially if they get several years out of it.
My grandfather would have called this backpack an honest product, and I find it a perfectly appropriate accolade. The backpack lives up to its description. It is sturdy, roomy and sized just right for an elementary school/middle school aged kid. The matching lunch bag is well designed and has ample room for a well balanced meal. Each of my 3 children has one of the basic LLBean backpacks, and all of them have lasted well (ranging from 2-6 years of wear and tear, depending on which child). I, myself, have a LLBean tote bag that is 26-years old and is STILL in great condition! My 8-yr old was the recipient of this backpack. He wanted to upgrade to one with wheels. I have every reason to believe that it will continue to serve him well.
P.S. I am listed as an occasional shopper here because the products last so long I never have to replace them!
The unexpected light up wheels were a pleasant surprise but the left one stopped lighting up within a few hours of receiving it. My son was so thrilled to get this backpack and very disappointed after a few days. It is little for a Third Grader. Doesn't fit a notebook and a lunch bag together. Very small main compartment and no secondary compartments of any size. If this came bigger it would be great. Also quite heavy but then it does roll. Expensive for what you get.
