Very good quality backpack and very pretty, but unless you have very short kids, age 7-10 is not a very good age range. The telescoping handle does not come up high enough for my 10 year old girl to reach with out bending down. It fits my 7 year old who is small for her age.
I bought 2 backpacks, one for a kindergardner, and for a 3rd grader. My son's 1 wheel does not light up after 1 week! I called LLBean, and customer service is outstanding! Will get another in a couple days. My other complaint with the 3rd grader is it's not big enough. He has a 2 inch binder, sweatshirt, and lunchbox. This backpack is filled to capacity with that stuff in it. May not be able to use in 4th grade. My complaint for my K child is she can barely lift it to get on the bus. It's very heavy for her, and being a girl she makes a dramatic scene over it. Now the plus's are that it is VERY well made. The rubber on the bottom (which makes it so heavy) protects the backpack very well. The wheels roll very smoothly (although the lights seem to go out a lot-the cust serv rep said that), and the straps tuck in very nicely to the back. There are lots of pockets and my kids do LOVE these backpacks (they should for 70.00). I expect if the wheels hold out, that they should get years use out of them. My kids have other Bean backpacks, and I still wouldn't buy any other brand.
I got one each for my twin girls. They love them and I'm so impressed with the quality. They are tough on backpacks and in years past we've gone through several lesser quality packs in one year. The wheels are fantastic (even light up) and the zippers are easy to use and hold up to a lot of opening and closing. I highly recommend this product.
