Let's face it, $99 sounds like A LOT of money for shoes, especially slippers. These feel amazing. And fit true to size. I have no doubt that this purchase was worth the investment. I really love the shearling lined interior. It feels luxurious, and the leather soles are beautiful. Hand-sewn too!
I love these moccasins. My dad wore ones like this - from Beans - all the time I was growing up, but I could never bring myself to spend the money. I got money for my birthday and now - at 55 - I finally broke down to buy them. I'm really happy I did.
My kids and husband all own Beans 'wicked good' slippers with fleece linings. These aren't soft and comforting like that. These are moccasins like you could wear in the woods (my dad did all the time) or canoeing. They will wear out quickly on asphalt, but will soften and mold to your feet if worn indoors or on grass/dirt/trail. They have suede uppers and a hard double leather sole. Because it is double leather, they are somewhat stiff and - as other reviewers have said - a bit slippery. However, they soften, mold to your feet, and stop being slippery after they're broken in. I really like the fact that, unlike most moccasins for women, they don't have a fringe that will curl up and look ratty after a while. They are plain and functional. I find them very comfortable, despite my currently broken middle toe.
I work at a university, so dress is fairly casual. I come in during the winter in my boots, take them off, and slip on these mocs. I am fairly sure it has never occurred to my students or colleagues that I am wearing 'slippers' and not shoes. After a month of daily wear - not forever, but not nothing either - they have lost the gloss on the bottom and otherwise look spanky new. I expect they will wear well.
Sadly, these will be returned. I thought they would fit my needs: I wanted the warmth and comfort of shearling. Tried the wicked good slipper, but it didn't work for other reasons. Tried the wicked good moccasin, but there are severe sizing problems there, plus I realized that I want a soft-soled slipper, NOT a hard rubber sole. This slipper is more true to size, but pretty tight in the toe area, and even after a couple of months, it didn't stretch out. What did happen is that the fur rubbed off on the inside next to the toes. After less than 2 months! The real problem is that they are actually too warm and would make my feet sweat. Did not have this problem with the other 2 shearling slipper styles, so I don't know why that is - maybe the double sole?? It was a problem I was willing to try to live with until one morning I put my feet into slippers that were cold and clammy up in the toe box, because the fur was damp from the previous day's sweaty feet. I am giving 2 stars becase I think the workmanship is good, and maybe a larger size would not have had fur rubbing off. LLBean: Why not offer more wicked good slippers with a soft sole?
These beautiful moccasins are amazingly comfortable. I wasn't sure which size to order because I wear a 6.5. I'm glad I listened to other reviewers suggestions and ordered a half size down (size 6). They feel wonderful and soft when I walk on my hard cold floor. I love these things!
