I bought these shoes some time ago, in the wide size in which I always order shoes, but had not worn them. My heels are actually a B width, but my arch is a C width and across the ball and toes I am an EE width. I got them out last week, thinking I might go hiking in one of Connecticut's parks. I had kept them expecting to do this sooner or later. I knew I could return them later. They are obviously sturdy, well-made shoes. To my surpise, the toe box was too narrow. I will take them back, and try on another pair to see if they are all this way, since all of the other shoes and boots I have bought from LL Bean have fit perfectly.
Those are at least my third pair of Mountain Treads. I wear them out, then look for another. As described in the catalog, they need breaking in, but wearing them for several hours a day over a couple weeks works. Very good trail shoes in wet weather.
You can't go wrong buying these. I have worn these for nine months and the quality and comfort cannot be beat. I have not had any issues with waterproof performance. These stay dry, as opposed to a lot of claimed waterproof trail running shoes. I also have a pair of LLBean Bigelow Light hiking boots which are just as good. Both of the shoes or boots were made in Italy. The quality is outstanding.
