I really wanted to love these shoes. They met all my needs and the price was good. I ordered a half size larger as many reviewers suggested. The length is good, but I cannot get my heel to stop slipping up and down inside the shoe. I've worn them around the house with socks of various weight; I've tried tying them tighter. No luck. I cannot tie them tight enough to keep my heel down without causing pain across the instep. Unfortunately, I will be returning them, perhaps for exchange if I can settle on another LLBean offering.
ProsDurable, Great Value, Comfortable, Performing as Expected
tis is my 4th purchase, last 10 yrs. The tread is excellent for hiking. All of my hiking gear and clothing is from LLBean. I have used the mt. treads for hiking in el camino de santiago, spain. Same trail they filmed "The Way". I also use them daily for work. I chose a wide EE for more comfort space and 1/2 size larger for hiking.
I am on my 4th pair of Mountain Treads and will buy a 5th when these wear out. They are sturdier than a regular light hiker and provide more support. The only concern I have is tread wear. The new tread does not seem to be holding up as well as the old cat's paw style. I use them primarily on paved surfaces and they probably will not last more than 18 months. That being said, they are the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn.
