First of all...sizing. I normally wear an 8.5...this is what I ordered and they fit me perfectly with light-to-medium weight socks. It's mostly warm here in NC where I live...so I suppose if you're going to be wearing these mostly in mid-winter in a colder climate you could go a half-size larger to accomodate heavier socks.
This is my second pair of these boots (low-cut GoreTex Mountain Treads) and they've apparently made them lighter and more comfortable since the last time I ordered them (approx three years ago). It's like wearing little waterproof pillows on my feet. And you just can't beat the Vibram sole for durability and performance.
I originally opted for waterproof Trail Model Hikers (which are themselves a great value) but exchanged for these after my socks got wet walking through standing water in a steady rain. Please see my review of the TMH's for details of that experience.
Bottom line...I should have gone with the Mountain Treads to start with. They're worth the extra dough IF you absolutely have to have waterproof performance. And did I mention my love affair with the Vibram sole?

This is my 3rd pair of these shoes. Wear well, Comfortable. Worth the price. I would like it if LL Bean had the same shoe in black where my shoe is dark brown.

I bought these shoes to wear in summer instead of my full cut mountain treads. They seem to fit even better than my old ones and I could not be more pleased. I wear a B width and it is almost impossible to find shoes that really fit. Thanks Beans!
