ProsDurable, Great Value, Comfortable, Performing as Expected
Very comfortable shoes that are low-cut but retain the solid, supportive feel of a good hiking boot. Very comfortable and surefooted on moderately rough terrain, but also perform well in an urban environment. Good styling as well.
First thing I noticed, out of box, was that these shoes are much better looking than the photos on the website. These shoes are more like hiking boots with shorter sides. The materials and craftmanship are top notch. The Vibram sole provides a very wide/flat/stable base to stand on. Although these shoes are comfortable out of the box, some break-in is needed to conform with my feet. I wear them 2 to 4 hours at a time, during break-in. The sole is stiff when walking, so some heel slippage is noticed; this should go away with wear. After break-in, I will probably rate them a 5 stars. I wish every shoe I have would have GoreTex like these. There is no fear of the morning dew with these babies.

I have long feet. When I was young, I always hoped that as time went on, there would be more shoes in my size (women's 12-13), but it seems there are ever fewer, and when it comes to waterproof hiking boots, there are basically none. That's why I am now on my third or forth pair of Bean's Mountain Treads. I can get them long enough, and, because they come in narrow, a proper width for my narrower woman's feet. I wear them summer and winter, though I have the higher style for winter, and, in spite of being 70 years old, I still walk a lot, including hikes in Britain that most Americans a fraction of my age would have trouble with. The Mountain Treads make it possible. They are truly waterproof, comfortable, and light-weight. They even look nice.
