These shoes are exactly what I wanted; high quality, sturdy, comfortable, waterproof shoes for the walking I do all over New York City in all kinds of weather. Because my feet are a liitle wide, I ordered the wide width and the fit is perfect and true to my shoe size. I have been shopping at LL Bean since the 1960s and I have yet to see its quality surpassed.
This shoe appears to be well made, except that the sizes are off. The Wide is actually a Medium width. I have to assume that the Medium width must be a Narrow. I had to send them back - no way I could wear this shoe.
This is a review of both the product and Bean service and Guarantee. The first product I had performed wonderfully, a cushioned, supported fit with stong but flexible outersole that had great tread for most any terrain. I am not an inveterate hiker but do miles and miles of low to mid-level walking as my primary exercise, have limited mobility in my right knee so firm support is paramount. This product is excellent.
Unfortunately an outer sole separated from the last on one shoe and was loose from the heel to the arch.
During our recent snow I bought a pair of the LLBean 6" maine hunting shoes and substituted for the Mountain treads. I stayed on more level ground and that worked fine.
I sent the Mountain Treads back to Bean requesting repair. I had worn them a lot but lots of wear was potentially there and the fit and other finish was great. Instead, Bean sent me a NEW pair, same excellent product although I note they were manufactured in a different country. Now I am more like the old postman motto, "neither rain nor sleet nor flat or steep...." well you get the idea. Great product, great company policy on goods and I am a lifetime Bean customer.
Very hard to conform to my foot but once they relaxed they fit .They are very heavy but i like them.Have not walked through rain or standing water to check the water proof quality.
