This is my second pair (the first are mid-cut). This new design is stiffer and feels heavier than the old design. The fit is the same - perfect for my narrow foot. They are very well made and a real value for the price. Although I wear them a lot, they are just not as comfortable as the old design (which are the most comfortable shoes I own). Also, I don't see the need for a pull strap on a low-cut lace shoe.
I have had two pair of the earlier version: the first lasted 3 years, the second 2 years. The first pair I wore 60% of the time, the second pair 95% of the time. Needless to say I was very please with the fit, durability and waterproofing. When I went to get my third pair I read the reviews about the change in design and saw comments suggesting the width has narrowed. So I ordered the next wider pair. They were too wide. I exchanged them for my original width, narrow, and they were just fine. I do not agree that the width of the shoe has changed. I like the new styling better and the way the back of the heel slants up. I normally wear the back of the heels out first. I think this new design will allow me to wear the shoes longer. I have been wearing the new shoes for about a month and they have been comfortable from day one. I also find the lacing just fine. My only suggestion is to make the loop at the back of the shoe larger so an average male index finger can fit in it; i.e. a one inch diameter loop. The current loop is only one-half inch in diameter.
This is my second pair. Generally satisfied with the product. Only negative, is that a crack between the toe and sole developed letting moisture in. I assume the Gore-Tex lining was also compromised. They did last 5 + years.
I read other reviews before purchasing these shoes. As everyone said, these are great shoes. I love them and have from the moment I put them on. If you are looking for this type of shoe, you just can't go wrong and I have wide feet and they fit great.
