I have found these boots to be very comfortable. The sole is very rigid, like a serious hiking boot. It feels as though you could walk over a board full nails point-up and not feel a thing. As some other reviewers have mentioned, I initially found it difficult to lace the boots tightly enough. Wearing mid-weight hiking socks helped (Bean does recommend this), but the biggest help came from rerouting the laces through the upper-most holes. For some reason the boots came with laces entering that last hole from the outside/top. This meant that 1) the ends of the laces got sucked into the boot when I put them on and had to be fished out and 2) that I couldn’t pull them sufficiently tight. When I rerouted the laces so that they entered the last hole from the inside/bottom and exited on the outside, both problems disappeared.
