This rug is not tan. As others have stated, it is brown. I attached a picture which is in a well-lit area of my home, and you can see it's color pretty clearly. I don't mind it because it matches my decor, but if you're looking for a light rug, this isn't it. Also, there is a very noticeable set of lines where they add a 1 foot section to make it the perfect size. I ordered the 6x5 and you can see in the picture (at the top left of the rug) there are two sections added on. Very strange and not all that attractive... I had to turn the rug a certain way so that it was less noticeable. For $165, I would expect better from LLBean. Also, the pattern is very blah- it looks more like a commercial mat, but for me, the benefit outweighed the look. Some of the other waterhog patterns would be nice, though.
With all that said, however, the rug is durable and works really well. It traps every speck of dirt in the entryway, allowing me to sweep far less than before. Rain-soaked boots don't even saturate the rug which is a nice feature. I know LLBean stands by their products, so I'm not too worried about it's durability. It's a great rug despite it's faults, and I expect it to last a long time.

We have Waterhog mats in both cars, on the covered porch and in the entrance hall of our mountain home. They work exactly as promised. They trap snow, ice, sand, pine needles, mud and gravel off our boots and shoes. WE LOVE THEM!!!
I have 4 of these mats in green around the house in use for almost 2 years. They are fabulous. They keep the dirt, mud, playsand, sawdust, snow and water from actually getting onto my wood floors and good area rugs. With 3 kids age 5 and under these have been truely tested in our house and have passed with flying colors. They vacuum up wonderfully. I'm back only because I would like a bigger mat at the front door.
We loved this as soon as we put it down! We have lots of snow, salt and sand that comes into the house during the winter. We needed something that would cover a fair amount of space, would look good in our entryway, and would be durable. I think we've found it! We're very pleased with this purchase and with the quality that LL Bean delivers.
