Not as good as the old overland pants/small pocket
PostedApril 27, 2013
I bought one of these and they are ok. The main problem for me is that the side zip pocket has a very narrow opening. It is very hard to get my wallet or keys in and out. I much prefer the old Overland pants which had a much wider opening. Please bring the Overland pants back LL Bean.
These pants were very comfortable and easy to wash for the warm and dusty weather we just experienced on a safari. They were practicle with the zip off bottom as I did not need to pack shorts saving weight and space which is important on a safari. The only issue I had with the pants is that the inseam of 30" which is what I need was more like 32" or 33" (even after washing in hot water) requireing to be shortened. I will be ordering an additional pair.
LL Bean tries to cover too many waist sizes with the small, medium, large and x-large sizing. I'm normally a 33' so I started with a medium. The medium was too large and the cut of the pant leggs reminded me of clown pants. So I tried a small. Pant leggs were not as baggy, but waist size was too small.
I took a camping-fishing-hiking break in the high Sierras last week in these., lived in them for three days. Hurray for the gusset for, uh, comfort, for the cut for walking and for stepping up rocky pitches all day, for the cloth for shedding fish slime easily with a baby-wipe, for the "briar" color for hiding the dirt, for the ring snap and zipper pocket for just in case, and the big back pockets for padding the hard granite a nice tiny bit. Lots of nylon zip-offs on the trail now, but not like these.
