This sweatshirt is as I expected in terms of warmth. The only downside when purchasing is to be sure of the right size.I bought a large, but it felt like an extra large.
I bought one for my son two or three years ago - he loved it so much that when he outgrew it, we gave it to our grandson (still looking like new!) and ordered him the same one in a men's size that should fit him for several years now. It is perfect because it is warm enough to wear to school through most of the winter, since the small lockers in the high school don't accomodate bulky winter coats.
I walk 5 miles every day all year long and was looking for a heavy sweatshirt I could use in late fall (upstate ny)and this one fits the bill. It was 28 when I walked today and no problems . but then it is from LL Bean. Made nice, fleece lined, warm comfortable fit.I may be able to wear this most of the winter and stay warm.
Built to stand up to years of hard use? Not quite.

My husband was pleased to finally get this sweatshirt after it was backordered for a few months. He's had it for almost 2 years now. He is a contractor who wears it during cold months. It hasn't actually earned the Ironworks moniker. It is now extraordinarilly shabby looking. It sports very worn cuffs and is threadbare along the front zipper seams. The ribbed waist is also quite worn. It's not standing up to years of hard use. However on the upside; he has been kept warm and will be ordering another soon. Perhaps the kinks have been "Ironed" out?
