Worked well for many purposes
PostedDecember 24, 2011
ProsComfortable, Performing as Expected, flexible use for travel
This jacket had to fill a lot of duties on a long mountain hopping tour thru southern China in November. Had to layer with fleece jacket and/or turtleneck in very cold places, or standalone with tshirt in others, since I could not carry too much up the mountains. Sometimes, it was too warm, but generally worked with the layering system. I was never actually cold! Also did pretty well against wind and light rain, and no tears on this very rugged trip. Also served as pillow on the plane and in a few lodgings. Only complaint is that feathers would come out of the seams. I would say a few dozen feathers popped out, but maybe this is normal for a down jacket.
The fact that is is pretty light weight and compressible into a stuff sack made it very practical as an all purpose travel jacket where space and weight are pretty critical. In the past, I took a down vest, but I wanted something warmer this time, and was able to eliminate a different long sleeve jacket.

too puffy in shoulders and arms
PostedDecember 12, 2011
ProsDurable
I tried this on in the store and decided to buy it. I know this has happened to others but trying it on at home I noticed it was overly puffy in the shoulders and arms. I am grateful that items can be returned in the mail since the nearest llbean store is 2hrs away. It is very warm and I did try it on a long walk in 30-40 degree weather and I was actually too warm in it. The zipper attachments also weren't my style. I have been looking everywhere for a down coat to replace my much beloved down coat from 10yrs ago. The ones in stores now just don't compare. It seems that the down is too thin in coats now to keep prices lower. I will say that llbean hasn't done this...the down is very good quality. I would love this coat if I felt girly and feminine not a linebacker. Also I am 5'3 and petite sizes would help create a more appealing fit.

Active Plus

ProsGreat Value, Comfortable, Performing as Expected
Finally a down jacket for a plus-sized active woman! This jacket is perfect in every way. Lightweight, comfortable and it fits! Drawstring at bottom makes sizing for us curvy ones complete. The slightly fitted sides makes for a flattering fit too. This jacket is lightweight, and warm! Not bulky. Perfect. LL Bean got it right!! I will definately do more shopping in the future!

Perfect down jacket
PostedDecember 6, 2011
ProsGreat Value, Comfortable, cozy
I bought a large Deep Wisteria/Darkest Indigo jacket. I love the colors and the fit is perfect. I think it's the first down coat I've ever owned. It's very warm and very comfortable. I may buy another in a different color because the price is reasonable and it feels so good on. I like it especially because it's warm but not bulky or heavy.
