Living in Georgia we typically have mild winters. The past few however, have been brutal with weeks on end with temps in the teens. This coat may be overkill but at least I won't be cold! In addition I can wear it on my annual ski trip because it is water resistant.
It seems to be very well made and it is extremely light weight for the temperatures it is designed to accommodate. I've never owned a goose-down coat so I wasn't sure what to expect but it is light and fluffy! The outer fabric appears to be sturdy and I expect it will hold up well over time. The price has to be one of my favorite things about this coat. Similar coats elsewhere are over $100.
As for sizing, I am 5'6 and 145 pounds. Typically I wear a large in shirts and jackets. This was my first LL Bean purchase so perhaps the sizing is different from what I am accustomed to. At any rate, the large was slightly bigger than what I expected and I probably would've been fine with a medium. That said, I'll hold onto the large and just enjoy the extra room it offers. I may look a little marshmallowish but at least it will be warm and I will have room for layers if I need them.
This jacket is exactly what I've been looking for....however, the sleeves are too short! I really wish LLBean would take tall women into consideration when designing their coats. And, remember that tall women come in all shapes and sizes, so carrying tall sizes from small to x-large is important! I'll keep waiting for that time to come....!

I just received this down jacket in deep wisteria & it's beautiful, I absolutely LOVE the color. I already own this jacket in dark fuchsia. I love the fit & comfort of this jacket. I live in interior Alaska where winters get down to 60 below zero. I wear my jacket from 30 below zero to 30 above zero. I have owned many down jackets in my life, but this is my all time favorite!!
