When I tighten the bungee lace, it leaves about a 4-inch loose loop even when I have the tie-down hook latched to the front lace.
Also, within about an hour of putting these on, my feet were on the verge of developing blisters.
I thought the drainage ports would be small holes, but they are long slits that -- at least for me -- the bottom of the foot sinks into and gets chafed by.
For an active shoe, I was really surprised at how uncomfortable they were.
I am trying to see if I can "break them in," but I doubt it.
Like some previous reviewers, I also had some discomfort on the bottom of my heels. I think this resulted from the pressure of my heels on the drain holes. I remedied this by slipping gel heel inserts directly under my heels and it was no longer a problem. This also helped to absorb moisture when my feet got hot. The bungee adjustments helped them to fit perfectly, and the loop on the heel helped to ease them on. I wore these sandals exclusively on my vacation to the Mexican Riviera. From hiking, biking, to climbing the Mayan ruins, even light snorkeling and then right back to the shops, these sandals were comfortable (even from water activities and then back to dry land- which I was concerned about). These are now my favorite warm weather shoes.
I just love these shoes! I spend a lot of time outdoors in the summer and I know I'll be wearing these constantly. Matter of fact, I already am! the only problem is the portholes for the water to go through - they do hurt a little bit after a few hours of walking around but you do get used to it. I have a rather wide foot and these fit perfectly. :-)
I will be living in these sandals all summer! I have never felt such comfort and support at the same time. I even golfed in them because I didn't have my golf shoes with me. I'm purchasing another pair as backup in case the style goes out! Good job LLBean.
